Shale gas is natural gas produced from shale. Shale gas has become an increasingly important source of natural gas in the United States over the past decade, and interest has spread to potential gas shales in Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia. One analyst expects shale gas to supply as much as half the natural gas production in North America by 2020.[1]
Some analysts expect that shale gas will greatly expand worldwide energy supply.[2] A study by the Baker Institute of Public Policy at Rice University concluded that increased shale gas production in the US and Canada could help prevent Russia and Persian Gulf countries from dictating higher prices for the gas it exports to European countries.[3] The Obama administration believes that increased shale gas development will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions,[4] However, there is growing evidence that the extraction and use of shale gas results in the release of more greenhouse gases than conventional natural gas, and may lead to emissions greater than those of oil or coal.

… Gas from Shale …
W-O-W !!!
And, it's 'Free' — just there sitting in the ground,
just waiting to be taken !
Lithuania will be RICH !!!
We'll have gas / oil …
Enough for 40 years !
Maybe 50 years !
[screw the scientists who claim that shale-gas production estimates are vastly 'over-rated'; these 'pest-imists' are not 'patriotic']
Screw Russian gas !!
We'll be rich — just like Norway !!!

Wait a minute …
Isn't "hydraulic fracturing" — used to extract natural gas from shale — a controversial technology ???
Hasn't such extraction been banned …
for example, in New York (state)
[and many other places]
due to potential / likely damage to 'watersheds' ?
(but, that's only the water that is underground, and no one can see that ; won't know that for 10-20 years; not-yet 'proven' …)
Don't critics call shale-gas recovery: "reckless" ???
Isn't shale-gas 'mining' about pumping poisons into the earth ???
… But, it's poisons that have not-yet been proven 'catagorically' to be harmful when put into the earth … OH !!
We could have gas/oil companies sponsor free studies to tell us that it will not be a problem … OH !!
We can make more friends with countries who would want their corporations to take our gas … OH !!
Then, we will get more 'respect' as a 'good place' for foreign investments … OH !!
We can create jobs in places that have no jobs, although they have safe water now — that they will not have after … OH !!
But, when no one can live there, those lazy people will move to cities, which will make our cities greater … OH !!
It won't cost much, if anything, to pursue the idea; it will give Lithuanians 'confidence'; the present parties will be re-elected … OH !!

Hey – Hey !!!
Let's go for this shale-gas idea !!!
OH !!!

Dear God,
Please grant LT some wisdom …
